Havn't delved into my Bentley (Flame Suit On) yet, but is removing the dipstick tube from the block easy?

EDIT - Apparently taking it out is a bitch, Slide Hammer?, and you need a special tool to install one?

I have a problem. My speedo keeps flipping out and bouncing around, only when I'm not on the accelerator pedal though. When I'm not on the gas, sometimes my speedo will read the correct speed and not bounce around. As soon as I get back on the gas, the needle will hold at the right speed.

None of the other gauges bounce up and down. Only the speedo.

Would this just be my speed sensor in the rear diff going bad? Would a bad SI board or any other thing cause my speedo to be bouncing around?

Unbolt and pull, requires some spinning around, it bends toward the bottom so you have to remove at a slight angle

          Sounds like a bad ground

I'd check the Speed Sensor in the rear diff first. Easy to get at and easy to inspect.

Check to make sure it's getting a good solid connection, I think a new one is less than 30.00? Other than that i'm not sure. Never had a problem with the Guage Cluster "Going Bad". Maybe the gears are going bad? I've had good luck with getting the gears replaced by Hollywood Speedometer out of CA. Good luck!

My speedo hasn't worked in a year but I never had the fluttering issue. gears don't drive the needle, it's more or less an electric motor (correct me if I'm wrong) that oscillates with pulses from the diff sensor. The gears are for the odometer and are super easy to fix on your own. Doesn't effect anything else though.

Definitely check your speed sensor on your diff Cheuk.

I LOVE finding out that parts that are "Rare" or Extremely hard to find are still available at the Dealership. I love cars.

Cheuk, I had a similar issue with speedometer. The plug that goes into the sensor on the diff had one of the wires rotted off. Some crimping and it was fixed. Also fixed the odometer - it started counting miles after that.

Also, read this, especially last post there.

IIRC i've seen these sensors secured to the diff with Bailing Wire, or something like that. Not sure if that's how they come from the factory, I know the plastic mounting tabs on the sensor get brittle and break off so they don't get seated like they used to anymore.

Also IIRC the wires going to the Sensor back there are pretty frail to begin with.
