Will I have any problems putting the car in my name, insuring it, etc.? I'm in WA btw if that matters. Just wanted to know if it's even worth checking out.
As others have said, if he said the paint is the cause of the rebuilt title he is outright lying, and I would take anything he says about the car with a spoonful of salt. But a salvage/rebuilt car is not necessarily all bad, especially if it is a decent deal. Just be sure to take it to an independent shop and pay the ~$100 to have a PPI done. They will be able to tell you if the frame is straight and if there are any major concerns with the car. Unless the car is <$1000 or you fully trust the seller and know exactly what you are getting in to then a PPI is a no brainer.

That actually seems like a fun/interesting little job. I've been eye balling the auctions for an e46 m3 drive train and there are a ton with SMGs and I was originally just putting them off. I'm really going to have to consider them now... I am a sucker for wagons and really want to put an m3 drive train in an e46 wagon.

I hear you. I have been wondering about an N54/N55 swap eventually. I suspect after driving the M2 for two days next week that it is going to be a bit disappointing coming back to the N52. But for three years it has gotten me by without any complaints.

Can't wait to see how Imitator's N54 swap works out!

Just came across an '84 Henna 325e on CL that is tempting - http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/5474136881.html

I appreciate the replies. So under no circumstance could a car have a salvage title from paint alone? If not, I already can't trust the seller, obviously. I'll admit it didn't sound legit at all when he told me. Anyway, I'm not looking to flip the car or buy it as an investment, I am however looking for a daily. I don't mind the brand on the title as long as its not fucked. I definitely don't want to be buying tires and whatever else every few thousand miles. Speaking of tires, he says they're all mismatched which I don't like the sound of. The car isn't a steal by any means but it is a late model 325i with what looks like decent paint and clean interior for around 2 grand. It's been on seattle cl for awhile I'm sure someone on here has seen it. That said, I'd think I could break even or even take a small loss maybe? Sure there's plenty of e30s for sale but my budget sucks. I'm saving and checking cl everyday but they're definitely hard to find in this price range.

I'll just go ahead and link the ad. Maybe someone knows this car or at the very least can give their opinion on what it's worth. http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/cto/5452845098.html

I also found an early eta with no major problems but it has 285k on it. Good daily or too high mileage?

That car has been up for almost 6 months now.
I tried talking to the guy this past summer and he partially answered one of my questions and ignored the rest. I followed up multiple times and even asked to stop by and see it on a trip up North and still no reply.

Personally, after an experience like that I can't trust the seller about anything else.

I don't like it when tools decide to block their license plates. It's gey.

But then his trunk shot.... full fucking plate in the frame lolol.

285k is not a big deal, at all. My brothers m30 535i e28 has a broke odo at 254k and PO said it broke about 5 years or more ago... we just raced it head to head today with my m42 e30, and my m42 car won. Granted my LSD helps off the line... his engine is probably kinda tired too.

I arranged with blueapplesoda for my megasquirt setup and am going to place my order next week for megasquirt ms3-pro plug n play. Going to make my own injector harness for sequential and then Ill be making m20b25 power. cheers :)
