Tell me they banned the guy asking for $200 in donations to go to the Dragon... that was priceless

I was there on Friday the 13th when the wreck listed above took place. My brother and I went up and camped out for the weekend to explore the area roads. We got there within minutes of the accident happening.. We were sitting in traffic 20 mins before the police showed up.. 30 minutes or more for an ambulance to arrive..
I prefer to stay off the Dragon when it is so busy.. I am very careful and try to never cross the yellow line.. The problem is that others are not so careful, hence the number of fatalities in the area..
There are so many other roads to drive thru midday that it won't be a problem.
We do not have to just sit idle and wait for this one to clear..
Ideally, It would great if the biggest problem we encounter is trying not to run out of gas !!

exactly why I'm proposing early morning, late afternoon runs. We were there the day after those fatalities and there were 3 cops in the area patrolling, but traffic was so heavy there wasn't any way to speed anyways.

Awesome.
I remember last time I went to the dragon (I think it was in October) I didn't encounter any of that trash, but then again, that's after the leaf watchers and bikes are mostly put away. I can only imagine what it is like when it's busy...

I just thought I would post this to inform those who are going to run the dragon. This is from the official dragon website http://tailofthedragon.com/
BULLETIN:
Friday July 13, 2007 - Two Florida riders were the second and third fatalities on the Dragon in 2007. According to witnesses the three-wheel Honda crossed the centerline and struck a vehicle towing a boat. The trike was northbound near mile 1.5 near The Wall. US129 was closed for several hours after the 5:30 PM accident while the scene was cleared. Another bike following the trike was also involved, but the rider refused treatment.
Thursday July 12, 2007 - A Michigan rider, Kevin James Hoyt (40), became the first fatality on the Dragon in 2007. The accident was one of many at the tricky Guard Rail Cliff corner at mile 7.2. Troopers measured the fall at 80 feet below the road.
The State of Tennessee has allocated $60,000 in funds to assist Blount County Sheriff and Tennessee Highway Patrol in patrolling the Dragon according to a BCSO spokesperson. Riders can expect daily patrols with increased activities during the weekends. This is not meant to be a harsh crack-down, but is an effort to slow riders down in order to reduce accidents. Be warned that excessive speeds and other violations will be enforced.
July 12-15: Two fatalities in two days and the increased LEO presence will hopefully slow down riders. Saturday was busy with a lot of IPCRC Pacific Coasts, Mixed-up Cruisers, BMWs of all kinds, scoots, sportbikes and a few small car groups. Sunday was slower. The increased LEOs at the Gap are primarily writing citations for speeding, double yellow passing, and minor infractions such as license plate placement, mirrors, turn signals, slicks, helmets and no registration or proof of insurance. We suggest you come legal. Plates tucked under the rear fender will get you a ticket.Last edited by atomic; 07-22-2007, 09:51 AM.

What kind of ride did you get Mike? I was hoping you would find something in time for this..

Early in the mornings or late in the evening are the only decent times to get somewhat clear runs on the dragon. Midday you will almost for sure get stuck behind slower traffic.

Well, looks like I am going to, unfortunately, have to drop from this. I am waiting for my camshaft to come in (3 weeks for delivery), still trying to decide on which clutch to run, and waiting for a head gasket, along with saving money to buy a stand alone and break in the engine, etc. etc. etc.

If our e30's are fixed by then. We beat the living snot out of them last weekend and they decided to complain. Mine with a snapped #2 intake rocker arm, and steve sheared some stuff in the pressure plate. Mine should be back up and running tuesday or so.(head is off and the rocker replaced just have to put it back together). I guese that's what happens when you have two megasquirted e30's at the dragon. I'm going to be lowering my redline from 6700 rpm's to hopefully avoid any future snapped arms.
