    Ford Injector caps

I finally got around to tearing my intake down and trying to install my ford 19lb injectors. The problem is that the caps from the old injectors are cracked and one is totally trashed as they were VERY brittle when I pulled them.

My question is since I'm upgrading to the Ford four pintle style, do I still need these caps and if so where should I get them? A Ford dealer since they are ford injectors or a BMW dealer since its a BMW manifold?

I have searched already and haven't found anything useful.

Those little plastic caps are called pintle caps. I picked them up at a local fuel injection specialist for like a dollar or two a piece. You might even be able to get them at an auto parts store. they are pretty much all interchangeable.

Just let them soak in warm soapy water and then pop them on.

So should I put the spherical OE style caps on the new fords? Just remove the top hat style from them and the Spherical will fit then?

Not sure what you mean by spherical and top hat styles. I just took my injedctor that had the broken cap in to that fuel injection shop and they gave me replacements that were exactly the same only they were blue in color as opposed to brown.

On the left is stock spherical and on the right is top hat.
Over on BF.c the consensus was that using the stock ford caps would be fine and is preferred since using the spherical would defeat the four pintles on the Ford.

I got mine at napa - they were dirt cheap. they are not specific to your car, they're all made by bosch and work essentially the same way.

Theres my injectors! Jak, I just put the fords in how they were, and cleaned them a bit. A tiny bit of vaseline works when re-installing them

Is there any proof that 19lb. injectors enhance performance? I've read elsewhere folks removing them because they were fouling spark plugs. I have a set but have yet to install them.

a better match to stock injectors would be M50 injectors 17.5#

on a stock engine - not really, other than replacing old dirty ones.

the people fouling injectors probably had other things wrong with their cars.

The stock M42 injectors are 19# so down grading to 17" is kind of pointless. I've been running 19# ford injectors (as pictured above) for 4k miles now. Fuel economy is consistently up by 2 mpg and the engine is much smoother. The 4 hole injectors help a lot in that respect. I couldn't tell you about power because I haven't put the car on a dyno. As soon as I set up my highbeam intake I'll upgrade to 21# injectors off a volvo.

The main issue with the stock injectors is the pintle cap get very extremely gunky with oil residue. You can try to clean it or send it out to be cleaned or you can install the newer EV6 ford injectors.

After 130 k miles on non synthetic oil pretty much all intakes look like this. That black crap from the crankcase ventilation was all over the pintle caps as well. The newer skinny 4 hole EV6 injectors are designed to be self cleaning. Gasoline is a natural solvent.

EV6 4 hole injectors have create a much more even spray pattern with small droplet size compared to pintle type injectors. Compare the last 2 images.

I think were were assuming M20

and yeah, single pintle injectors suck. too bad there aren't any 4 pintle sized for the M20 (that I know of). that would be best for a stock engine. :)

With a little research, I'm sure you could find one. Look through the injectors that have 155 as the middle number.

Personally I would just move up to 19#. The DME will adapt after a few miles of driving and I'm willing to bet the fuel economy of the M20 will improve.

I have put this on hold until I get some other things. I'll order the parts this weekend and hopefully be back on track. Im going to replace my FPR and TPS and i'm thinking that since I have my intake pulled out that I might get it powder coated or krinkle coated after its bead blasted.
