Temperature sender location

can anybody tell me where it is?! for the life of me i can't find it. its not the one that goes into the oil filter canister is it?

my temp gauge is dead and im also hoping this will fix my erratic idle when the engine is cold every now and then.
thanks for any help.
sorry if its a dumb question but im new to my 318is and the bently doesn't have the m42 in it.

under the intake manifold at the base of the front of the cylinder head. Can't remember if the oil or the coolant temp sensor is the one furthest towards the front.

GL and try an e36 book, maybe that will help
