M10 just wont rev

I looked at an 84 318I last night. The damn thing woulndnt rev over 1500 and ran hot as fuck...any ideas the guy was trying to say it was the cat. Im thinking its a major vacume leak he had a cracked Intake manifold where the injector rail bolts down. I think im gonna pass that car up. Found a 323I im gonna look at tomarrow. But my dad was interesteds in it cuz the guy only wants $250

pass.. look at the 323. You might end up spending who knows how much just to get it running perfect. Go for the car that runs the best and call it a day.
