Need help pulling engine [Southwestern CT]

I have a 1980 635csi sitting in my driveway, taking up alot of space and need to get it out of there. The first and biggest step is removing the M90 engine and dogleg transmission. I don't have a lift or experience removing an engine, so would anyone be willing to come to Stamford, CT any time during Thanksgiving week and help me remove it? I can give you money for beer/time/equipment use/gas/fast food/sex/etc, talk to me and let's figure something out! I should be home from college starting Sunday, but could do Friday/Saturday if that's what would work for you. Your assistance would be invaluable to me.

In the (not so near) future, it's going into the E30 to create the 3rd, maybe 4th M90 powered 335 in the states, I believe. Rest of the car is getting parted to recoup my purchase price. I'll try to get some pictures on Sunday when I get home.

Whats up man? How are you?

Im from stamford connecticut myself and have been wrenching on my e36 for alittle while now. Im down to help you. I dont have any mechanical backround but at the least another set of hands is a plus. So far ive done things like drop and put in a new exhaust, replaced driveshaft, valve cover gasket. And basically taken most of the car apart.

I work in this cold weather even today in my garage and dont complain. Always looking to help a fellow enthusiast.

If you interested in my help just hit me up on here with a pm id be glad to swing by.

        -Drew

So you are gonna do the m90, then yank it in a few months and do a 24v?

Also, I suggested him because he is in your neck of the woods and could lend a hand.

Wait, you are gonna s52 the m635i?

Haha no man. Im just a kid from stamford. Im not the OP. I have an e36 right now with an m50. And I want to drop an s50 PnP in it or if I get some balls an s52.

Then ill still have my m50 left over which I plan to turbo. And I can drop that into a e30 project.

This guy is just asking for help with his project so i offered.

Hey sorry I haven't been giving this a lot of attention. I'm trying to contact my friend who had said he'd come down with his lift and help pull it out, so far he's not responding. I'm hoping to get it done towards the end of this week. Farbin, the M90 will be refreshed and put into my E30, hopefully this summer. The 6er will be sent to the scrap yard. SK20iPPy, do you have a lift out of curiosity? Where in Stamford are you?

Alright so time is quickly counting down. This engine (the reason I bought the car) must come out by Friday of next week; the car has to be sent to the scrapper before I go back to college. I only just found out that my friend is not certain he will be able to come down with his hoist. Still a possibility, but I have to prepare for the event that he cannot. Is there anyone that has a hoist they could bring and help me get this engine out? I'm short on cash but could definitely give you some gas money/get some lunch for someone who could help me out here. Much appreciated.

Of course anyone else would be welcome to come and lend a hand but the key element at this point is the equipment to remove the engine.

If I have time tomorrow then I will shoot down there with my pickup truck and hoist. I'm all the up in North Haven and with work and cars I just don't have much free time.

I've been following a little bit of your build thread and not for nothing, but you have a good bit of work cut out to get that engine into your E30. Have you looked into whats need to convert your L-Jet to Motronic 1.3 (guessing thats what your doing)? You need to swap to the later Electronic distributor driven camshaft (B35 or some aftermarket one would work well) and the matching upper timing chain cover. I would also go with a B34 Intake Manifold instead of a B35 one since the B34 intake ports are the same as the earlier motors and the later B35 intake parts are more rectangular, but a B35 would work fine. Then there is the B35 trigger wheel and CPS, the B35 Fuel Rail & 19lb. Injectors, M30 AFM (all E28 & E34 535i AFMs are the same, but the 533i/633csi one is different!) and various intake pieces.

The ICV on your M20 can be reused as well as the wiring harness, and I'm sure there are a few odds and ends as well.

Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse with this info, just wanted to give you some more insight on whats needed. ;)

edit- if you read this before 12:30pm, give me a call and I may be able to swing down there this afternoon since I'm at work right now.

Thanks for the posts, guys. Sorry I'm reading this a bit late, yesterday was a long day and I needed to catch up on some sleep. Thanks for the info Ben, some I knew, some I didn't. I'm relatively confident that given enough time I can convert it to M1.3, the only thing I still haven't been able to figure out is whether the toothed balancer from a B35 has the same bolt pattern as the M90. I'll PM you my number, give me a ring when you aren't busy and maybe we could arrange something for tomorrow. Thanks a lot!

Yes the M90 front trigger wheel should be the same as the B35. Should be 8 bolts. I am hopefully finishing up my Motronic 1.3 swap on my L-Block equipped E28 in the next couple of months, but the difference with mine is that it already has the electronic distributor as it was equipped with Motronic 1.0 basic (061 DME).

There were some L-Blocks that were Motronic 1.0 basic in the very late euro E24 635csi and E23 735i (002 DME), but they are pretty rare. Also, you may not have to switch the cam, I can't remember. You do need the upper timing chain cover though.

Please PM your number soon. I'm down in Shelton and I can try to get the hoist into the truck, but its 100+ pounds.
