    General megasquirt tuning questions

What would Cuase big BANGS coming out of the Exhaust on ACCEL?

OTher than That, How does The MEgasquirt Know that I have 7psi of fuel pressure at Higher RPMS. ITs an AUDI 5000 FUel pump... am I getting fuel starvtion if the Wide band 02 is still sensing still in the 11's or 12's during accell or so. I have been tuning day to day driving, but havent ventureed past 1/4 throttle, because, when it accels ill hear the BANG, out the exhaust. so I dont want to fuck anything up. wHAT DO i DO?

    tHANKS!

Put the car on a hysteresis dyno with a wide band sensor monitoring the exhaust and make part throttle and WOT pulls, adjust the fuel maps for 13:1 (for performance) or 14:1 (for economy). Trying to tune the engine based on driving is fraught with difficulty as you don't have a constant load.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Check your timing, just because your fuel maps are "fine" doesn't mean your timing is.

Im running a timing map from IXER on E30 tech, he said it should be widespread for m10's m20's and m30's. not to mention my motor has 8.7 compression as well.

Idk much about timing maps, maybe Nando will chime in.

Also I know timing will be different based on different PSI, that timing might be fine for an NA motor, but unless its tuned for YOURS, it might do strange things.

fo sho, Im just hoping that i can just figure out what I can. throwing it all on the table per se. Im no pro.

that reminds me: my buddy has a great tune for a N/a Motor. I havent played with it yet, but would it be okay to use that timing up till 100KPA , then use my reg- boost map?

I heard tight valves can cause wierd symptoms too, ill do my valves tommorow.

timing map is fine, ixer knows his stuff. I'd leave it alone.

my bet is the bang you're hearing is unburnt fuel exploding in your exhaust. I.E. you are way too rich. Definitely try to hit up the dyno if you are having trouble with street tuning. Have you tried the VE analyzer yet? what does your AFR target map look like?

do you really have FP and EGT? neat. Now you get to learn how to use EGT. :)

What plugs are you running and what are they gapped at?

I dont know if the Fuel pressure and Exhaust temp are ACCURATe??? but somehow it reads it anyway. all I have is the AEM UEGO with wideband controller. maybe it has some element for temp in that??

Otherwise. I have been using VE analyzer, my AFR targets are in the attachment.

Stock BMW 2002 PLugs. I forgot what They are called, ill look it up. I opened the gap A TINY MArigin though.

uhm did you hook up a FP sensor? because if you didn't that isn't FP.. same with EGT?

also you want to go the other way with the gap, make it a bit smaller. you could also try the next step colder plug.

I havent hooked up anyuthing for fuel press or EGT. BTW I posted up the AFR table in the post above under "untitled"

How exactly do you find a colder plug for a car? I never understood that. I thought there was a part number for each plug for each car and that was that.

No, plugs are pretty basic, despite all the attempts to fool people. there's nothing special about the plug used in your engine, other than being the right heat range and whether it's a resistor plug or not (most are).

its pretty simple. the number in the part # for your plug is usually the heat range. bosch plugs use lower #s for colder plugs and higher #s for hotter ones. NGK uses higher #s for colder plugs and lower #s for hotter ones. so an NGK BPR7ES is 2 steps cooler than a BPR5ES. dunno about other brands but it's probably similar.

if you haven't hooked up sensors specifically for those inputs, then whatever you're seeing in that graph doesn't mean anything. It's probably reading from one of the generic ADCs which is probably hooked up to some other sensor.
