Just got a ticket for improper muffler, and lack of muffler for a whopping $450. It's true, but I'm going to appeal and hope that a higher-up will be reasonable. I don't want to get rid of my new (2 days old) setup, and can't afford to either.
Does anyone have an old OEM muffler? Any condition as long as the outer shell isn't rusted through. I'm not one to ask for handouts but if it's just sitting around and you'd like to just let me have it I could come pick it up, money is super tight right now. My plan is to cut it open, empty it, and have it welded around the two pipes currently constituting my "muffler" or lack there of. I can prove that my old "muffler" rotted off very recently, and that this was a stop-gap until I could get a replacement. If I can show up to the appeal with proof that I went out right after the ticket and got a proper muffler "installed" I think I can get it reduced or dismissed if the person is reasonable. Clearly it'll sound the same and they could hit me with noise-related tickets in the future but that's a different story, I guess I need to worry about visual inspections now and what can they say if there is clearly a big fat oval of a muffler on the back of my car. Any help would be appreciated immensely.
Summary: Looking for an old OEM muffler almost any condition, cheap or preferably free. Willing to come pick it up if it's anywhere around me.
