    88 E30 AutoX Springs

Anyone got part number suggestions for Race Springs for my E30. The Eibach's sports have major suckage.

    What class are you running?

If you must stick with springs H&R race springs are the way to go.

If you can do a coilover conversion that is probably better for you, then you can choose spring rates

Coilovers tends to be the better approach: ground control for low budget, AST and others for higher. H&R race will be stiffer than the Eibachs but most folks will say not stiff enough to be competitive.

The answer to your question really depends on class and budget, how streetable you want the car, how competitive you already are and want to be (local, regional, national). If you are in it for fun or starting out and have limited budget, bump up the springs with a set of used H&Rs and get as much seat time as you can.

If the proposed SCCA class reorganization goes through ST is out for e30s and you will be in STX, DSP, or SM (depending on your prep). In either case a 15x7 wheel is small. The 15 kooks are also happier on a 7.5, 8, or larger to take advantage of the width. Also in STX and DSP you will be competing against folks with LSDs and r-comps.

            Welcome to the slippery slope.

H&R race, koni yellow adjustables. and get some good sway bars. and dump the ebay chip, get a good quality one.

only reason to go coilover is if you are on a high speed track. i bet you will find a better weigh sift with springs and shocks. there tends to be alot faster turns and the coils never do as well as a good spring shocks and sways.

I am not liking the sports either. I too am running my car in ST. We are so going to get clobbered when and if they kick us out of ST.

                      autox days.

having not enough play in the tail causes a lot more issues as you hit those high spring rates. (usually not as smooth a track day)

Disconnect rear sway and try again. Coil overs just fine in Autocross especially with sticky tires.

What is or was your specific setup?

my current set up needs to be crap bc its a DD and a vert. i'm on dinan springs and koni adjustables. its way way too soft to be competitive. but i have raced my friends hardtop with HR+billy sports. and sways: 24mm/22mm. it was much better, still a tad too soft but he also dailies it. i have also ridden in a few e30s with coils out there. and with the changing crappy terrain they were not worth the point gain. with "BMWCCA-GGC Autocross" HR race are lower points than coils. and when you slap those on they pit you against tuned e46 m3s.
i do agree with jean, coils are the best. but are they worth the point gain on your car and are you willing to be beat to death by every bump if this is your DD?

If you value handling over looks then coilovers are certainly the way to go. Being able to change the ride height independently allows you to corner-weight the car as well as changing the height to bring the roll center closer to the center of gravity.

A swapped e30 with coilovers and stickies is good competition for e46 m3's, even with coilovers and R-comps... I will admit that an e30 with H&R's is a better DD, but when it comes to auto-x there is just no comparison.
