    Sina's Classic Peugeot Restoration Thread

Going to strip down my car next weekend when i'm FINALLY done with the school year.

I am planning on having this car's rear quarter panel pulled/fixed in the next few weeks.
I'd love some feedback from you guys about how hard of a job it would be a for a shop to get 'er done.

Reason why I ask is because I have already a gotten a few shop estimates, but most vary drastically.
Some shops say that they cutting the quarter section off entirely and welding replacement on is just stupid, and some say otherwise.

I'd like to hear what you guys have to say.

Random guestimated ballparks are welcome here as well.

Also, keep in mind that I am dead-set on having this car fixed, telling me to find a new shell is irrelevant.

    Thanks!

    My current plans:
    • Strip the entire exterior
    • Gut the interior up to the dashboard (Going to tackle the interior as a summer project with my pops)
    • Have a shop pull the rear quarter, center panel, and straighten the trunk floor
    • Have a shop go around the car: fixing all minor dents and surface rust in tiny areas
    • Have shop paint the whole car in original Peugeot paint
    • Reinstall all pieces myself

Also, no B.S in this thread please - I'm trying to figure out the procedure for getting my car fixed, I don't need to hear shit like "it's not worth it" or "junk the car."

    Thanks!

Probably should cost like $8000 for all that work.

I was quoted $1700 to fix/paint my e30's rear quarter panel and it wasn't as bad as that. Do you want it perfect or just good enough? If it's the latter just pull/knock it out yourself.

Here's a pic of the damage.

Pull the rear end and quarter, see where the inner fender ends up after it is pulled back into specs. Then replace the quarter panel and most likely the rear trunk panel too.

Any other way would be hacking it

How does this car drive? Lol I've always wondered why you love it so much, besides the family connection to it.

Crap thats bad. Its almost like the whole structure is toast. Whats it look like underneath? Honestly, unless that car was ultra important to me, I just dont see it being worth it unless you do a rediculous amount of work on it. Then you get into what is your time worth, maybe better spent on another car......

If this were Chuck Norris's car he'd close the trunk and turn up the bass and let the sub pop the dent out. But you aren't him, are you?

Wonderful. Superb. It's not a BMW, but it sure handles like a dream for a large european sedan. RWD, 5-speed, 4-banger, and a world-class rally heritage suspension.

These cars dominated Showroom stock in the states throughout the 1980s.

Good to know. I just want to know why so many people and shops have told me that a "good body/metal guy" could save the panel.

Maybe a good body guy could save the panel, but I highly doubt it. Imo it's probably going to have to be cut and welded like others have said.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

Why do you guys say the panel cant be saved????

The right metal guy could save that no problem.

Example...take a look at this saved superbird nose (scroll down a bit)

The big this is do you WANT to save the panel, as it is probably going to be more work to repair it than it would be to replace...but you need to find out the cost of the new panel and install vs repairing that one.

The guys doing my charger are top notch, if you were on the east coast id hook ya up.

Generally body work like that is a lost art, too many guys (and with the aftermarket i dont blame em) just replace fenders, quarters, doors because its less expensive and less work, but when panels arent available you need to know how to fix things and fixing metal is an art, mastered by years of experience not taught.
