    M62TU in the X5 - interesting

So, this is now the 4th BMW V8 I am working on (counting the two I have) doing a Valley pan and gaskets/cooling system.

M60B40, M62B44, and 03 M62TU in my brothers 03 540i/6spd all had the oil separator INSIDE the engine on the driver side behind the timing cover.

Now, this one is an 01 X5 M62TU as well BUT the oil seperator is at the BACK of the engine OUTSIDE, mounted on the side of the intake manifold by the firewall.

There is no metal pipe under the intake manifold on it with the spring at the back, so the rear plate is also different.

The two big hoses connected to the top of it go OVER the back of the intake manifold and one connects to the driver side Valve Cover!

WTF right?! No idea why BMW did this, but I found it interesting.

Yep, X5 has separator that is real pain in the ass - especially in the wintertime when the damn thing freezes every two seconds...

Btw, the blocks in X5 have different mounting holes as well. This is pretty weird, as it means BMW has had to make a different casting etc.. for it. No wonder the cars cost so much when new :)

In case someone has a spare X5 4.4 block laying around, I have a friend who needs one (PM me, thx).
