Idiot shoots 14 people at Batman movie in CO.

Since this will end up getting into a gun and gun law debate I will just put it here, to begin with.

Idiot shoots 14 people and hurts about 50 more at the New bat man movie in Aroura CO.

Aurora police chief Dan Oates told reporters that 10 people died at the scene of the shooting and four others died after being taken to local hospitals. At least 50 other people were injured, Oates said.

One suspect was apprehended in the shopping center's parking lot, Oates said.

The incident occurred in the Century 16 Movie Theaters at the Aurora Town Center, police told NBC News. Aurora is a suburb less than 10 miles east of downtown Denver.

KUSA-Denver cited a witness as seeing a black-clad 6-foot-tall man wearing a riot helmet, goggles and bullet-proof vest. The witness and her boyfriend crawled to the emergency exit, KUSA said.

The suspect was found in possession of a gas mask and two firearms, Oates said. Ammunition was found in the suspect's car, police said.

The police chief said there was no evidence of additional shooters.

The suspect's apartment building in north Aurora was evacuated after the suspect made a statement to police about possible explosives at his home, Oates said.

Witnesses told reporters that gunfire erupted during a shootout scene.

Brenda Stuart, of 850 KOA radio, told Sky News that "a lot of people thought the gunshots were part of the movie."

    'I'm in shock'
Tear gas also went off in the theater, Stuart said. She added that bullets had passed from one theater into an adjoining one.

One young man told KUSA that he was out front of the theater with friends when the shooting broke out.

"Next thing you know you hear 'boom' like tear gas, a bomb. ... Then you hear gunshots go off, like a fully automatic weapon. [There were] like 50-60 gunshots," he told KUSA.

"I was just worried about getting out of there," he told KUSA.

The man, who did not give his name, said he heard gunfire continue for at least 20 minutes.

"People were coming out of there screaming, some of the people were coming out of there bleeding. ... People were coming out with their shirts covered in blood," he said.

As he left the theater, eyewitness Hayden Miller told KUSA said people ran up to him and said "there was a gunman setting off bombs and shooting people. ... He wasn't giving anyone a chance to get out ... It hasn't really hit me. I’m in shock. it’s insane that this can happen in a movie theater where people had gone to have fun."

Another eyewitness, whose name was not given, told KUSA that he "saw at least 4, maybe 5 people limping, slightly wounded. ... I saw one girl covered in blood.

"I don’t know whose little girl that was, but my heart goes out to them. ... A cop came walking through the front door ... holding a little girl in his arms and she wasn't moving, she wasn't moving," the young man, whose voiced cracked as he spoke, told KUSA.

The Denver Post quoted witness, Bejamin Fernandez, 30, as saying that people ran from the theater as shots rang out.

Fernandez told the Post that he saw people falling, including one young girl.

Salina Jordan, 19, who was in Theater 8, told the Post she saw one girl struck in the cheek and others in the stomach, including a girl who looked to be around 9 years old.

Jordan told the Post that someone ran into her theater yelling, "they're shooting out here!" An alarm came on, Jordan said, announcing there was a "murder in [the] theater."

Truly tragic. Thoughts and prayers to all those dead, harmed, and traumatized while watching a movie that will forever associate them with this massacre. Sadly, "Batman" and "going to the theater" may now be ruined for these people for life. A horrifying thing to rob such innocence.

He was wearing a bullet proof vest.

Yet you almost never hear that happening. In a panic with everyone running I think it would be hard to take down a crazy shooter.

Yeah no it never happens or we never hear about it . This happened like 4 hours BEFORE the this latest CO. Incident

But yes during a Chinese fire drill (mass confusion) you dont start returning fire, I am good with my carry gun, but I am not that good and I know that. I am all for killing someone thats trying to kill you or others, before they get to you, if you have the means. But in that situation your much better off just trying to retreat and save your ass that anything. As your more likely to hit a bystander, not to mention be implicated since you too have a gun and thats all the cops are responding too is a MAN WITH A GUN SHOTS FIRED CALL. Not to say I wouldnt have it drawn and if a perfect chance presented it self and I was aware enough to take advantage of it I wouldn't but that said I would be getting my ass outta there and not worrying about returning fire.

Actually, I would think it would be the opposite. He would never see it coming.

All gun debate aside, this is incredibly tragic and gut wrenching. It is hard to imagine having the mentality of that gunman.

My heart goes out to his victims.

your right he might not expect it. Its dark in a movie theater, lots of Noise and flashing lights especially in an action movie like batman, the panic of a packed place like that NO WAY man. Not to mention a Laser sight (if you have one on your carry weapon) works like a tracer round, it points right back to you as much as it points to your target in the dark.......

taking a guy down in that kinda situation armed as well as he was, would be very very hard for even the very best trained elite Counter Terrorism SEAL, Britt SAS or Israeli Mossad Operators. A guy like you or me with a pistol and some competence would be just plain stupid to try and take him out.

Like I siad I am all for carrying and yes an armed civilian may have been able to shut this guy down long before the cops were able too. Just if I found myself in that situation it would not have been me unless I was already laying on the floor bleeding then all bets are off LOL or the absolutely perfect opportunity presents it self.

How do you know there weren't 1 or 2 people in that theatre that were armed and trained but were unable or unwilling to do something? The gunman had the clear advantage-well-armed and protected from the tear gas. You guys act like it would have been easy-peasy to in only a few seconds perceive an attack was occurring, produce your weapon, discern the location of the shooter (apparently dressed in black from head to toe-gas masks aren't very reflective) in a crowded, darkened theatre, discern whether or not a human shield was being employed and collect the target while being fired upon without adding to the carnage.

The Orlando case is a completely different scenario. Our hero was able to observe the action for several seconds, it wasn't dark and he had clear field of fire. Had he been sitting with his back toward the action engrossed in something and only made aware of the thieves presence after they began shooting people, he would likely be just another guy with a gunshot wound in the back....

As stacked as the odds may be, I could not live with myself if I had a means to fight back, but chose to stand by and watch him murder innocent people.

I would consider this one of those "dare to be great" scenarios. If it cost me my life to save the lives of others, so be it.

This is all assuming, as stated above, that the person armed even had the opportunity to take a shot. Even so, teamwork is a virtue. Meh, if only more people could think clearly under pressure.

current CCW laws prevent the CCW holder from carrying inside a movie theater!
