Yes, my seats are toast, so now that we have established that, we can move on to what really good. LOL
I have designed armrest brackets for your e28 sports seats. These brackets have been cut from 3/16” a32 steel via waterjet. They have been designed to accept e28/e23 and e34 armrests. These brackets require no drilling and mount to the seat with the seatbelt buckle bolt. Unlike the armrest on e28 comfort seats, these move with the seat base, and not the seat back.
Below are a few pictures to illustrate what they look like. For a while I’ve had an armrest from an Audi A6 that require an lot of fad, drilling and cutting. For the few days I had no armrest, it was a nightmare, I never realized how much I missed them. The e28/e23 units will bolt into your car in about 45 minutes. You will have to unbolt your seats and just lean them over a little. There is no way to do it without unbolting your seat, unless you have hands like a Ken doll.
At the moment, the units are unpainted. My waterjet company has a relationship with the powder coating company next door and is working on a quote for me. My guess is that the powder coating will be a few dollars more per set. They will be coated in a flat black to help hide them down there between the seats, but as they sit now, they are barely noticeable.
At this point in time, as a collective, my guess is that there are 1000 sets of e28/e23 armrests sitting in the collections of the e28 community. When it comes to e34 armrest, I think that number is significantly higher and the number of e34s in the salvage yards is growing. I request that my fellow yard dogs start to gather these and I can’t supply the community on my own.
The e28/e23 armrest will come with all mounting hardware and directions, but it’s straight forward and extremely easy. The e34 armrests already have the mounting hardware attached, even easier. The lower bolt on the e34 armrest will need to be shortened and I will supply acorn bolt so there are no thread protruding on the inside.
The cost will be 78.50 per set shipped with mounting hardware.
Orders will be placed on Fridays. They waterjet company has extremely fast turnaround time. Orders placed on Friday will be ready on Tuesday. Then off to powder coating. I’m not sure what the turnaround time for them is, but I’m working on that. I’m hoping to have these in the mail the following weekend via USPS 2nd day priority.
Those who purchase brackets will go on an email list and as I acquire armrests, I will send out emails. But I don't think there will be an issue with finding armrests if its a group effort. Thinking back, I've left dozens of e28/e23 armrests in the yards and well over a hundred e34 sets, and that just me, in my small yard circle.
I currently have pacific blue and a llama set. For the next three weeks it will be difficult for me to hit the yards, but after that, its gloves off.
