    325e 5spd parts worth it?

    I've grown extremely tired/worried of my autotragic gearbox. Found an '87 325e all parts still there. Driveshaft/guibo/carrier bearing all in nice shape. Don't care about the sheetmetal shifter carrier because I want to run the AKG shifter. Anything wrong with running the dual-mass flywheel? Think it's worth it? It's all I've come across lately.

      What engine does the recipient car have? If an M20B25, you definitely want to use a single mass flywheel meant for that engine. If an M20B27, you need to use the dual mass or the equivalent heavy single mass meant for that engine.
      The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

        It's a B25 engine, I've heard of others using the dual mass flywheel on the M20B25 before claiming smoother clutch engagement. If it's not a good idea I can always just wait until I get my hands on a single mass flywheel and use the euro 323 bearing from what my searching has brought up.

          87 should have the eta heavy single mass flywheel and the transmission should have the dual mounts for early or late style shift assembly. It will have the small guibo. If the donor car is earlier than mid 1985, the trans will only allow a sheet metal shifter and cannot use an aftermarket kit. I used a complete early eta setup (single mass, small guibo) in my stroker and it felt fine. Got a lighter flywheel from a late model and it was hardly noticeable.

            I'm not saying you are wrong, but my 9/87 eta had a dual-mass flywheel, and a large guibo. From what I have seen/read 87's are all over the place.

              9/87 would be titled in the US as an 88, though, right?

              The parts listing sites all show the large guibo started in 5/86, but I have owned 3 early models, and there's two in the shop right now, all late 86 & early 87, all of them have the small guibo. Hard to say if they were ever swapped, but it's highly doubtful as I bought my first e30 with <75k miles.

                I'm expecting it to have the dual mass. The car in question had the sheet metal shifter carrier, which I would not be using. regardless of whether of not it has the ears for the late shift carrier I am very seriously considering the AKG short shifter.

                The plan is to snag the trans and driveshaft (since it appears to be good)associated mounting hardware for hydraulics etc. Might grab the hydraulics too since rebuilding them doesn't seem like a bad idea. I already have the pedals.

                  run whatever flywheel/clutch set you desire; clutch order new regardless. For flywheel buy a used m20 single mass unit and have it surfaced

                    I have the thicker and heavier single mass flywheel mentioned earlier meant for this trans that il let go for cheap if you need it. With the correct flywheel you won't need to use the 323 throw out bearing.

                    let me know.

                      No thanks. Picked up the trans yesterday. Definitely had the dual mass unit and has the later shifter arm mount, also grabbed the front driveshaft. Didn't grab the clutch or flywheel as I'm going with the "i" flywheel/clutch and 323 throwout bearing. Haven't decided on a shifter yet. Still looking at the AKG unit.

                        If you use "i" FW and clutch, shouldn't need 323 TOB. I put a complete "i" clutch kit in my eta when changing to the 885 head, worked perfect.

                          Depending on the year eta trans' had a longer bellhousing, mine is one of them.

                            You said it has the ears for the late shifter? What the trans part number?

                              holy shit your right . . . I read that info thread backwards. So I have the correct bellhousing but the larger output shaft. Good thing I grabbed the front driveshaft too then :pimp:. I guess I'd better go back and grab the other half soon. Pretty fucking happy right now.
