having an issue getting my S5D 310Z up into my M60 E30

    hello all,

am in the process of jamming an M60 into my 323 euro. got the Garagistic engine mount arms, E34 540i engine mounts, subframe spacer installed. engine sits perfectly in. got my headers done and I went to try and put the trans in and both the starter ears of the trans are hitting the sides of the tunnel in my car.

how have you all gotten your 310Z 5 speed or hell even the 420G 6 speed up into the car? tricks/tips?

    Thanks!
    -Erik

That transmission looks like it is really far back in the tunnel. Is that a photo trick?

You have to massage in the firewall and transmission tunnel in the areas where you're touching. It's the only way if you're trying to go for the rear most engine position.

BTW, what's your clearance between the motor and subframe with those E34 540i mounts you're running?

I'm on the forward motor mount position. I will have to rip out the engine and massage the firewall I guess.

clearance is pretty good. probably 3/4". maybe more.

trans isn't in there -- thats showing the tunnel as it is.

Are you going for a more forward or rear position? I had issues where my motor was basically sitting on the subframe and the oil pan was crammed against the steering rack in the rear position when using Revshift E34 540i mounts, fixed it later by getting E39 525 TDS mounts. Clearance for me now is like 2-3".

clearance seems ample with the E34 540 mounts, I dunno.

was able to shove the trans in with some trans tunnel massaging.

Looking good! Yeah you have to modify the tunnel by banging it back a bit to get it to fit.
Make sure you have absolutely NO interference with the body or the vibration will transfer tight to the body.

shipping was unacceptably slow for an 'in stock' item and customer communication was poor at best, but the mounts did fit, so I really can't complain on their fitment. seem to be as good as the 300mm.de mounts for 2/3 the price.

We apologize. It says on our website that these are made to order/preorder (and it can take 2 weeks for delivery), we dont stock them. We always send out tracking numbers via paypal. We are available by phone/email as well. We want to make sure all our customers are satisfied.

Those e34 mounts will settle and your oil pan will start rubbing the subframe.
I have the same mounts and when I ordered them, their website claimed that 540 mounts will work however they don't.

Someone later figured out that the e39 tds mounts were much taller which would help and so I've had to buy another set of mounts that totals about $400 in mounts and the first pair I cant even use.

This is my only gripe with the garagistic mounts. Sure they're cheaper but if I had to do it again I would get the 300mm mounts that can use regular 540 mounts. That and the fact that garagistic later changed their statements so they now claim "our mounts are designed to be used with e39tds mounts". Sure.... design your product to use the mounts that came on a car that was never offered in the us that forces us to purchase mounts shipped from germany at $100 a pop.

The reason they were chosen was they do not have offset studs like m60 motor mounts, are taller (to accommodate those with e36 steering racks which are larger diameters), they fit perfectly within the e30 frames and are a tiny bit stiffer.

We want your opinions that way we know what to improve. We are currently working on a solution for the rubber mounts since the cost has gone up on them.
