    The Bavarian Triangle

So, i've been doing research, reading every post that I could, trying different things, but the solution to my electrical problem is a mystery to me. Here's the situation with my 87 325is:

Last Fall, I replaced the grommet seal on my trunk antenna; removed the antenna unit, unhooked the power to thread the grommet on. When I reinstalled everything, I noticed that my radio and OBC no longer worked. The OBC is backlit, and the radio only displays the time (the wrong time - always resets to 1:00). Other items that don't work: the tach, trunk light, the antenna.

When I start my car, the clock on the radio reads 1:00 with the OBC only backlit. The clock starts keeping time but once I press the power button on the radio, the numbers reset to 1:00, and the antenna starts to go up an inch before it just retracts and stops. The radio head unit doesn't seem to be getting power as trying to tune to a station, and the rewind/fast forward on the tape deck doesn't produce any kind of results.

What I've tried: replaced all the fuses in the engine compartment fuse box, tested continuity with a multi-meter on the fuses, checked the inline fuses behind the head unit (fine), checked connection on the back of the OBC.

So, I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to try next. SI board batteries, SI board solder? Is there an internal fuse in the OBC? Any suggestions on what I should try next? Thanks in advance for any help.

Get a test light, make sure fuse 21 has power

      Fuse 21

I'll test power to fuse 21. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm admittedly no dynamo when it comes to electrics. What would no power to Fuse 21 suggest? That there's a break in a wire somewhere in the circuit?

Tested fuse 21 (and all others) with a test light and it's getting power.

It sounds to me like some of the radio wiring might be screwy. Try taking down the knee panel on the driver's side, popping the radio out if you can, and look for wires that may have been disconnected. I had a similar issue once and it turned out there was a ground wire that had been cut and twisted together by hand.

Wow, it's as though you've seen the back of my radio! :D I've got the wires twisted together by hand, unconnected wires, and the dash dimmer wires trimmed to nubs. I think Edward Scissorhands did the aftermarket stereo install...

I'll look around for anything obvious and try to clean up any sloppy connections. The hunt continues...

            Thanks for the input.

Have you downloaded the ETM yet? It's not exactly user friendly, but you can see all that fuse runs, almost all you have mentioned run off of one fuse

                Etm

I haven't downloaded the ETM but I've seen links for it here and there so I can find it. I'll see if I can download a schematic for my head unit too. Time to dig in.

                  Ya...head to 6500-2

You will see fuse 12 (7.5a) runs ignition power for the radio, fuse 28 (30a) runs the antenna and fuse 21 (7.5a) is memory
