i was wondering if i can get peoples insight on the cost of converting an e30 automatic to 5 speed. i see many nice e30's and get extremely sad when i see it's an auto. is it worth buying an e30 and converting it to manual or better off just looking for 5 speeds. I do not have the luxury of having a garage or a good friend who has an auto shop so i would need to have a shop do it all. I expect the Labor to be many hours which means lot's of money. anybody know the rough estimate cost on that labor? that's if i can scavenge out a good tranny somewhere for cheap. Any insight and words of advice will be much appreciated. Thanks

Too many variables to tell you with any real accuracy, but anywhere between $1 and $1,000,000 ought to cover it. So expect something in that range.
And, a less sarcastic answer would be between $250 and $2000, depending on location, for labor alone. Then it's parts cost, which can vary wildly depending on your resourcefulness, or how close you are to California and having to pay the cali tax.Last edited by TurboJake; 08-18-2014, 12:50 AM.

Seen labour rates at a good shop hover around 800-900 in my area, and like everyone else said, parts are entirely up to you and how hard you look/how lucky you get.1988 Atlantisblau Euro/Japanese 325i Cabriolet

They supply the parts and replace the trans seals, all bushings, new clutch/flywheel/pressure plate, new clutch and brake pads, ect. And they do the swap of course. They said you drop it off in the morning and get it back in 2 days.I Timothy 2:1-2
