Cheap M50. Should I go for it?

    Hello all,

I have an 87 325e. The car runs great. Odometer stopped working at 218k. But again, still runs good. However, I have the itch for more power. At first I thought I would do a stroker. But I do drive this car almost every day. I have another vehicle to rely on when this one is down. But I hear that the strokers aren't ideal if the vehicle is driven often. Then I started thinking about an S52. Then, yesterday, I was offered an M50 that is bolted to an auto transmission for 300 bucks. Pretty sure the ECU is gone from the engine. But the rest is there. I have heard the M50 is not worth the work/money. I really wanted to keep a naturally aspirated setup that's why I was leaning toward the S52. Would it be worth it just to grab the M50 and modify it to make more power? Any and all opinions are welcome. Thank you.

M50s are frequently available for about that price. I'd personally prefer it to an s52- way way cheaper, obd1 so you don't have to go through as much work and fun to drive. Not as fast, but has longer connecting rods and shorter stroke meaning it loves to rev. Throw on a light flywheel it'll be really enjoyable.

I just realized I put this in the wrong forum. But thank you for the response.
