    528e Timing Belt and Exhaust

Hey guys, haven't been on the forums in awhile, I still have no E30 but I do have an E28. It's a 528e auto unfortunately but it was cheap so I figured why not. Anyway, there's no records of the timing belt being done so I'm really thinking about doing it myself but I think it would be a pretty big deal for me. I'm not super mechanically inclined but I'm also not a complete noob.. I've seen some pretty good videos and write ups for the E30 but no great ones for the E28 specifically. I know this type of thread comes up a lot but is it really that hard? What I really want to know is how different is the E30 replacement process compared to the E28? Also, what are some things I could completely screw up while attempting this? If I don't end up doing it, how much do you think a shop would charge?

The car also pretty much needs a complete exhaust system. The guy I bought it from was an idiot to say the least. Lots of questionable "mods" done to the car, all pretty fixable however. One being that he completely unbolted or cut the exhaust at the manifolds so yes it's running a open manifolds.. I was thinking of just running a straight pipe with a muffler. I looked into this a little and it seems the catalytic converter bolts onto the manifolds? If this is the case can I just run a pipe from the cat back to a muffler? This would also be my first time doing exhaust work so I'm not exactly sure how it all works but would I be able to just use universal exhaust hangers to secure it?

I know I could go over to mye28 but I like this forum so I thought I'd try and see if there's any E28 experts on here.

Hello I am in Bremerton and I have some e28 parts for sale. I am also available to help do a timing belt.

please pm me for more info. my exhaust setup I would like $400 for but it is super quiet, easy to remove with 3-bolt flanges and uses vibrant and DUCATI mufflers. text or call me at 360-850-2733

if your car has the M20 engine in it then its the exact same process as the E30 videos except a couple bolts will be a different size, I just did this on my 84 528e but a lot of parts were tough to remove (Thats what happens when a car sits for 10 years) currently waiting on a new clutch fan and fan
