    M60B44 Frankenstein info please

Hi - I’m going to tackle this build ,so beginning to gathering info /data.
Any other threads out there ? I have a couple others from E30 te.. and Bimme..F.
I thought I saw a good write up by BruceB but can’t locate it?
Which short block ? M62 non vanos/flat top piston, or can the later vanos blk with piston valve pockets be used ?
    Thanks
    How about a M60B44 sticky in V8 section ?

There's not much to it, bolt the m60 heads/timing components to the m62 block. Vanos or non-vanos, both will work. It will assemble exactly like a stock m60b40, so you can use the TIS or service manual or your choice for assembly instructions and torque specs.

The only two things that need attention are:

    1. The timing cover gasket between the upper and lower covers. The m62 head gasket doesn't have them built in, so you can either cut off the front of an old m60 head gasket, or cut your own out of gasket material.

    2. The timing u-guide oil channel needs plugged. See here:

I have about 11k miles on mine since May of 2014. The low end torque compared to the 4.0 is phenomenal.

Also some of the timinchainnparts will need to swapped to work with the single chain? Or dual chain I forgot what it was. But mine has been running also for awhile but currently turbo-ing it right now so it's down

You need to swap all of the m62 single-row chain timing components out, and replace them with the m60 dual-row chain components. Crank sprocket, guides, idler sprocket, and chain.

It all bolts right on, the block castings are the same in that respect.

I've found a 4.4 motor with about 200k mi. what is the durability of these? Would it be worth rebuilding a motor or keep looking?

My m62 block has 210k on it, the heads have 150k. If the engine runs good, has good oil pressure, and compression is good, I'd just run it.

That said, I have a spare m62 that I plan on tearing down and doing bearings on, and finding a set of m60 heads to rebuild, to assemble a 'spare' m60b44, as I don't anticipate my current one to last forever. Although it runs 100% perfect.

Hmm that's the thing, its already been pulled. I'll see if i can get a compression and leak down test
