Have you guys ever experienced this?

When I first moved into the heart of New York City, I had to find a place to park my car. This was about 3 yrs ago and I had my 1991 325ic. Now, parking in the city is extremely expensive and I was looking for a place that's under $300 a month. I finally found this garage underneath a nice building and the monthly rate was something like $275. I was thinking "great" and the next thing that the "manager" pointed to me was the surcharges for cars like BMWs, Mercedes, and Ferraris. In my car was an extra $50 per month. I was like "WTF?". My car was a few months shy of turning 10 years old and was probably worth less than half of these Honda Accords and Toyota Camrys parked in this same garage. I guess if you own a BMW they feel justified to charge you more "just because".

Also, although it seems like any Joe Schmoe can go out and lease a brand new 3 series for something like $299 a month, I still get "oh, so you drive a BMW" from my co-workers. Now when faced with the same question I answer by saying "I drive a 15-yr old BMW".

A joke that one of my ex co-workers once told...."What's the difference between a porcupine and a BMW? The pricks are outside on a porcupine"

I have actually gotten over the whole "BMW image" thing...my family members, friends and strangers always bring it up and I silence them with the age of the car and the price of it...they always end up saying .."but it's still a BMW."

My favorite is telling a chic what car I drive when it comes up....I always MAKE SURE to mention the year of the car :P

I can't believe they charge you extra for the e30 though...thats absurd!! They charge you extra till there's a claim due to some incident and then all of a sudden its back to an "old worthless car.." yeah right...

First of all, that's a ridiculous price to pay for parking. I pay less than $325 for rent out here in VA (although the prices are meant to compete with on-campus living).

But yeah, I've met a girl or three at parties that seemed to get interested when I responded and told them I drove a BMW. Ever since that happened, I just tell them it's a BMW that is as old as them (which is pretty true!).

Ive started responding like this too. I got soo tired of defending my stance and saying that my car was 18 years old that my new response (to guys and ugly girls) is, "Yes, I do. I am better than you, move along."

If its a hot girl I just say, "Doesnt everybody?"

I used to say, "Well yes, but I bought it myself and only paid $2000. Its used." But after getting so many snotty inquiries I jsut starting being a dick. Its society's fault.

when people ask me what kinda car i drive, i do the same exact thing most of you guys do... "an '87 325"... if they ask what is an '87 325, i tell em it's a old base model bmw

Driving a BMW is pretty much different from a lot of other cars. I love BMWs and would much rather be driving my 13 year old BMW than a brand new Grand Prix (which my mom owns :oops: )

If someone asks me if i have a BMW, i say yeah.....and kinda leave off the year part because they are impressed by the name. If they hate on the year, i have to take them for a ride and show them what's up...... like on a windy back road maybe :) !
