does motronic (#173 or #153) perform any AFR corrections?

I have a 173 box in my '87 325is and i am using an SMT6 piggyback unit. I was curious if the motronic box attempts to correct the A/F mixture at all to achieve a 14.7 AFR or whatever.

I'm just worried that I would be fighting motronic if i'm trying to tell it to give more fuel and it doesn't want to.

I think i heard somewhere that at WOT, the O2 sensor is ignored... is that true?

Also, as an additional question, i just wired the SMT to control my ignition timing. I am able to advance or retard 12 degrees with a throttle/rpm map. What kind of numbers should I be working with? Is there some kind of general rule (eg, advance with higher rpms or something like that). I know with tuning the AFR, i'm trying to get the mixture to around 13:1, what am i aiming for when i do timing modifications?

      well crap, that's discouraging.

I notice that when i'm running 6K rpms @ WOT, my SMT6 map is programmed to increase the AFM voltage by 20 points - this throws the voltage just over 5 and when i'm hitting those rpms, my check-engine light comes on for a second until i shift and am @ lower gears. I have not had a constant check-engine light though.

With some work, i have been able to get my AFRs down to the mid/high 13s. I'm working towards low 13s right now. I'm gonna install my larger injectors and see what happens.

maybe i need to get standalone engine management.
