    Help! M40 to M42 engine swap. Starter just clicks. *Solved*

    Problem solved, bad connection Engine runs now!!

    I just swapped m42b18 from e36 to my 316i -89. But now when i try to start it the starter just clicks. I have tried three different starters, spinned engine from crankshaft pulley, connected pin 11 and 14 from diagnostics port and still it just clicks. I tried different relays that are located it the engine harness and still nothing.
    Battery is two months old and fully charged. All connections are tight. This has to be electrical problem right.

    This is how i connected the c101 to x20
    c101 --> x20
    1 --> 25 charge light
    4 --> 12 temp gauge
    5 - -> 23 oil light
    7 --> 21 ign switch
    9 --> 20 engine speed
    13 --> 13 fuel pump reley
    15 --> 15 unloader relay
    18 --> 18 ign switch

    Parts i used M40 motormouts and oilpan, g240 tranny and 316i driveshaft, e36 engine harness and ecu, e36 fly wheel and clutch.

    When i swapped another m40 to replace my old one i had a same problem. I didn't solve the problem it just went away.

    Where to start, i am clueless. Plese help!

    Grounds, motor mount to frame passenger side? Ground the starter with a jumper cable to frame and try again.
