    Malfunctioning driving computer (OBC)

My on board computer's display quit illuminating a while back and recently I bought another one on ebay to replace it. When I plugged the replacement in, it also wasn't working correctly. I can still read the display somewhat during the day, but it is not backlit at all, so it's unreadable at night.

I know there is a bulb pack that pulls out, and the pack that I pulled out of the old obc appeared to have burnt bulbs. The "new" one has a bulb pack that looks good, but it still doesn't illuminate.

Anyone have any experience with these things?
Should I just go to the dealer and order a new bulb pack for it? when the "new" one appears to be ok. The part number for the bulb pack is 65.81-1375461.3, I think. Can anyone price this online for me?
Here's a pic of the whole unit that I'm talking about.

If the OBC display is working but simply not backlit, the bulb housing you are talking about is probably burnt out. The PN is 65 81 1 375 461 and it should be about 35 or 40 bucks from the dealer. People have soldered new bulbs into the housing, but unless you know what you're doing it isn't really worth it. Just slap a new housing in your old OBC and all should be well. 8)

I think I will just hit up radioshack for some bulbs, $40 is a bit steep for these two bulbs on a circuit board. The soldering shouldn't be a problem.

        Thanks

          Update:

I got the bulbs from radioshack for about two dollars. I soldered them in using the old bulb plastic housings to mount them on the board.
Just installed the repaired bulb pack today, and it works well.

It was worth the saved $38. :drink:
