5 lug sleeve users (NASIEG/Max399 Kits)- What about ABS?

I am troubleshooting ABS on my track car, running NASIEG 5 lug kit which uses e36 m3 hubs on e30 spindles. We had the car on track for the first time last weekend, and the ABS was causing issues immediately, it would come on sporadically with almost no brake pedal pressure. After this happened a couple times in the paddock, I unplugged ABS and ran the car like that for the weekend. It was ok, but I need to get ABS working going forward.

So far I've found that ABS sensors are side specific, and I had the sensors swapped from left to right. When you put a left side sensor on the right side of the car, it rotates the point of the sensor shaft (the sensor shaft is diamond shaped) away from the ABS ring, which creates a larger than specified gap and the ABS doesn't work.

Once I swapped the sensors to the correct sides of the car, I ran into the real issue- the ABS sensor shaft touches the ABS ring on the e36 m3 hub... Just barely! I've tried two different sensors, on each side of the car, and they all touch.

Anyone running ABS with this setup? What did you do? I have some solutions in mind, so not worried about that, I was just surprised that I hadn't seen much on this topic yet.

You should check outer diameter and compare it between e30 & e36m3 ABS ring

Ah yes, I forgot to update this. I ended up machining .005" or so off of the "point" of the ABS sensor shaft that was touching the ABS ring. We ran the car @ Road Atlanta a few weeks ago and the ABS was working perfectly, unfortunately I blew up the S50 but that's a story for another thread. Anyways, I'm going to get some spare sensors and machine them as well so we have some extra's in case we need them @ the track.

Now that Elcoy has gotten some more kits out there, anyone else running into similar issues?

          thanks for sharing.
i'm just reading up on any issues and generally more info on these kits.
i'm like 1mm away from buying but...

So the stock abs sensor hits?
almost nobody is posting on there adapter kits.

I haven't heard of anyone else having this issue, so maybe it's just me. But yeah, no way the stock ABS sensors would fit. We've had some strange ABS issues at the track since this thread was created, but they might be unrelated to this setup.

I suppose I'll be finding out soon enough...I'm on the list for the next group buy from Elcoy, and while I'm not a fan of how the rear ABS works on E30s, it's a nice safety net to have. Would be great to have it working.

Out of curiosity, what ABS issues are you running into?

We're getting a big shudder, feels like warped rotors, that gets progressively worse as the session goes on. Seems to get progressively worse with the number of ABS engagements you see. We've all but verified that it's an ABS issue by pitting mid-session once the shudder gets really bad and pulling the ABS fuse. Once this happens the shudder is gone. My theory is that the really bitey pads (Hawk DTC-60) are spiking the rotors with the dumb slow e30 ABS and leaving deposits that create the shuddering feeling.

After A LOT of testing my conclusion is that the e30 ABS isn't up to track pads and tires. They're too grabby for the system to deal with and you end up not having great brakes or saving your tires from flat spots. I've finally pulled the trigger on the individual masters and adjustable bias.

If you REALLY want ABS I would look at e36 or e46 systems.
