    Electric windows, blowing fuse 17

    Hey guys,

I've been going thorugh my uncles 325iX Touring (new brakes front and rear, shocks etc etc..)

I'm now trying to fix the electric windows, the windows only work when his doors are open.
I saw on E30zone that fuse 17 and 28 could be the cause of this all.

I've checked both fuses and noticed that fuse 17 was blown, when I replaced it and tried operation the windows, the passenger window went down but not up.
I again checked the fuse and it was blown again.

Could this be caused by a bad ground? Or would it be the electric motor itself that draws to much current?
Also, could I test all windows like this to figure out if the others also blow a fuse?

    Thanks :)

the window circuit breaker should be going off before the fuse pops..I'd start there if it happens with more than 1 window.

You may have a seized or stuck circuit breaker for the windows since the fuse pops before the breaker trips. Additionally, if the ground was bad, your windows would not be working at all. Therefore, you can assume the window regulator, motor or mechanicals are causing the motors to pull too much current.

Ok, thanks! Did not know the button on the middle console was a circuit breaker, I thought is was some kind of on/off switch :p
        I'll look for a replacement

Yes, I also thought the motor is pulling to much current and that's why the fuse pops. Is there a way to turn the windows up manually (when the door card is out) so I can feel is they are hard to slide up and down?

I took apart all my windows apart and lubed the screw track and window guides. This helped a lot, it doesn't solve the problem having a tired motor but it sure makes it a lot easier for them to go up and down. It has made mine usable again.
