IE Wilwood BBK kit install help.

I cant seem to find any install guides on this kit. I emailed Jeff and he sent me a word doc, but it has no pictures or torque settings.

I have a basic idea of how to do it, but pictures always help, and the ones I have seen on here do not look like the IE kit that I have.

I tried posting this in the brake forum but its pretty dead there.

So according to the directions "The new brackets mount on the backside of the stock caliper mounts" every picture I have seen of the wilwoods installed shows them inboard of the stock caliper brackets, maybe because these are the slimmer versions they are different.

Also the release for the brake pad bar looks different then the ones I have seen and there are no directions on how to remove. Im assuming that those clips in the picture I pull out and the bars do but I dont want to mess anything up, they dont look as simple as the older design.

Lastly I have no idea what the torque should be on those bolts.

        1) Pads: yes, looks like needle-nose pliers or some circlip pliers. They are simple pinch clips.

        2) Bracket orientation: Mount it in whatever configuration centers the caliper over the rotor.

        3) Torque specs, quick google search will yield recommended torque specs. I've found that BMW factory manual reflects these numbers pretty closely.

All in all it's pretty straight forward. Hopefully that helps you out.

Thanks, normally I just jump in on stuff, but I have never changed calipers before and well with it being brakes I am a bit more cautious.

I will mount them all up this weekend and then take some pics to see if you guys see anything that looks really off.

            Totally understand, no worries.

One more bit of advice, Wilwood calipers use NPT fittings (if you look at the SS flex-live you will see the threads are slightly tapered). NPT threads are designed to be wrapped in teflon tape to provide a good seal.

One more question. The bolts for the adapter can go in either direction.

I know the install directions said for the ones that bolt to the OEM caliper brackets you put the bolts through so the nuts are on the back side (closer to the engine instead of the rotor).

As for the ones that go from the bracket to the actual caliper, logic to me would say they would go in the same direction with the nuts on the back side close to the engine.

Although I saw a pic of it the other way, they work in either direction, so I guess it doesnt make too much of a difference but I would like to do it right.

Pic for reference, I put one on one way and one on the other to illustrate.

This is the pic of someone else's install with their bolts the other way.

I know this thread is old, but I'm doing this install right now and thought I would add some knowledge about it.

                      1. You have to cut your dust shields or remove them completely. They will rub on the caliper and they will rub on the rotor. I cut mine so that only about a 90 degree section on the top away from the caliper is left. Cutting the dust shield will also allow you more room to hold the bolts that bolt the adapter to the knuckle. Also be careful not to leave sharp edges on the cuts or they will find you and they will cut you (or your gloves) when you go to tighten the calipers down.

                      2. You may have to shim the caliper one way or another if the caliper rides too far to one side when you bolt it down. On both of mine I had to shim mine toward the inside of the car so that the inside brake pad did not lock up the rotor and prevent it from spinning. A little dab of grease will help hold the shim in while you try to locate the caliper and put the bolts in.

                      3. There are arrows on the face of the caliper indicating which direction the wheel should be rotating.

                      4. Pay attention to the vane direction on the rotors, not the slot direction.

That's all I've got for now.
