Feeler: Rear Brake Upgrade Brackets - Z32 calipers on vented discs

    Little background:
A few weeks ago, after cooking yet another set of front pads on my HPDE driven e30s52 and hardly touching the rear, I ran a couple of calculations and was surprised to find that the FC front brakes and stock rear brakes had a extreme front bias, ~93% when utilizing no bias valve and an e32 straight bore MC. This got me thinking how about an upgraded rear setup that correct the bias of the fixed 4 piston RX-7 front setup. After days of scouring the internet I found one setup that might work... a Z32 non turbo rear caliper on a MA61 Celica Supra Rotor, redrilled to 4x100. Calculations indicated this would bring the bias to a much more friendly 71% (factory is 67%).

    About the Setup:
    • Rotor size only increases from 258mm to 266mm
    • Thickness is benefited by a 18mm vented rotor as opposed to 10mm non vented factory
    • Caliper is now a 38.1mm dual piston z32 rear fixed caliper as opposed to the single sliding factory 38mm
    • Rotors and calipers are readily available at most parts stores.
    • Best fitted with the FC RX-7 front setup

My current setup is matched to an e21 booster, and the brakes are tight, grab well, and have the perfect amount of feel and actuation. This kit, when matched with a E32 master cylinder and the FC RX-7 brackets makes for a substantial braking upgrade for a budget track build!

Right now, I would like to see the level of interest in producing a kit initially offering 2 options.

Option 1: Just the brackets - $125 shipped
    This will include:
    • 4x 45mm 10.9 grade bolts to mount the caliper to the bracket
    • 4x 35mm 10.9 grade bolts to mount the caliper to the trailing arm
    • 4x 10.9 grade nuts to mount the caliper bracket to the trailing arm
    • 4x Steel spacer sleeves
    • 2x bubble flair to bubble flair brake line adapter
    • 2x z32 to e30 trailing arm adapter brackets

Option 2: Brackets and Disc - $240 Shipped.
    This will include:
    • Everything listed in option 1
    • MA61 rotors redrilled to 4x100 and to the correct center bore.

Install is simple, but isnt 100% bolt on. Additional work beyond simple bolt on is:
    1. Hammer the dust shield back just behind the hub about .25 of an inch and slightly cut the opening for the caliper
    2. Adjust your parking brake to fit the new ma61 rotor hat.
2.1. E-Brake works, but not nearly as well as factory, see note 3
    3. While not required, but recommended, purchase either 350z parking brake shoes, or ~2005 Legacy shoes (extensive grinding to fit)
    4. Very light grinding to the rear hub to accept the chamfer of the rotor
    5. Build the rear hard line to go to the caliper
5.1. This is ~11 inches of bulk brake line from your favorite parts store with one end as a Euro bubble flare and the other as a Japanese inverted flare. This is very simple to make for ~10 dollars, but due to variations and my imperfect lack of Jig, I do not want to get into the business of making lines that don't fit the car perfect and ending up with disappointed users.

Please let me know if you have any questions, what you think, call me an idiot, etc, or if you are interested at the pricing offered. Also, as with many things bought from forum members on the internet's, these are offered with no warranty or guarantee, and for legal purposes, using these is at your own risk. This is to not say they are quality, as they are, I even run a set, but I am not a company, I am simply a guy trying to offer options to people for bigger brakes. I will certainly assist if you do not receive the product you anticipate, or if you are dissatisfied, will refund your money with the returned product.

This is awesome! Any idea of the added thickness of the calipers and how that affects what wheels can be run?

I am 100% down to buy this. I'm 5x120 since i'm doing E36Ti rear so i'll just have to figure out what rotors I need to run.

        Count me in!

Wheel Fitment should not be a problem, especially if the front is able to fit the RX7

The Z32 and skyline R33 are the same rear caliper right?

How are you calculating your brake bias? 93% doesn't seem right. IIRC RX7 calipers with 280mm rotors and stock rear brakes is around 71% front brake bias and stock is 65%.

Edit: I went back and checked my calculations and I show 71.6% front brake bias for RX7 front/stock rear and 65.1% front brake bias for stock.

Bump, 3 Kits left of first production run!

Amazing Budget track setup, I have 2 weekends on them and braking capability is night and day from just FC fronts and 25mm master, you wont be disappointed if you run these!

What model E32 was your master cylinder from?

And Im also curious if a 944 Booster will be just as good as the E21

When are you going to do a new run of these? Very interested. Also thanks for pioneering something!

Interested in the rear brake Z32 upgrade kit.
Currently running track e30 with s52 with Front RX7 Brakes.
Using e30 MBC planning on upgrading to e32 MBC and this z32 rear brake upgrade.

Please PM in order to get the Z32 bracket and rotor kit.
                              Thanks!
