    Holset hy35 anyone?

    Has anyone tried the hy35 on either an m20 or m50/52? Apparently the hx35's are getting really popular for just about everything and the prices seem to have gone up from what I remember them being. I have done some searching, but I cant seem to find any build threads.

    Lots of them. Even a semi-local here has one on his m20. Haven't seen him in a while, but we swapped a 2.93 in his car one eve, went for a ride and the butt-dyno would say it's close to the hx35 powered cars (haven't had the chance to dyno tune one yet). They are slightly smaller/lower max power from what I remember reading the specs. Been a while, though, going from memory.

      For whatever reason, I can't find anything when searching google. I know it's a bit smaller turbo, so I'm wondering if it would spool quicker. I really only want 350whp at most to start, and my thought was this might get me there and spool quicker then an hx35.

        The HY35 has a smaller 9cm2 turbine housing (the HX35 has a 12cm2), the smaller the size the faster the spool up. So, yes it will spool up quicker and it will support the 350whp, these turbos have been dyno'd over 500hp (look up DSM's they used to use these all of the time). The other thing about Holset turbos is that they are very durable. So, for any of the engines you listed this turbo would work well.

          Finally pulled the trigger on a manifold yesterday forcing me to actually go down the turbo road. If the Hy35 will support my initial power goals allowing me to shake down the whole turbo thing until I am able to do a full built motor and step up to a more premium turbo, then that sounds like a plan!

            My m20 with an hy35 it has a smaller housing and 7 blade wheel. Perfect for the lower displacement engines. Just have it welded up for an external wastegate.

                I have an m52b28 and I guess I am curious if the hy35 is going to be too small in general. I want to say it is going to be fine for my power goals, but I can't seem to find anything searching for "hy35 m52" or "e36 hy35", etc...

                And yeah, I have seen that thread before and it's just a mess with numbers...hard to keep everything strait.

                  Took the plunge. Will see how it performs eventually. If not, I'm sure I can sell it for at least what I paid for it, if not more...
