early model in tank pump options

My in tank pump has been dead sense i bought the car and the in line pump has been doing all the work. now i would like to replaced the in tank pump so the system will work properly.

so far the options iv found from searching are- walbro255 (not really interested in removing the inline pump), oem in tank at the price of 300$, or a shit airtex pump that i have heard are garbage.

so what there is no in between? anyone find a decent oem replacement for under 150$?

Search for the GM Vega pump.

I've never found an in- between, either. Eventually, I gave up and put the later in- tank pump in.

now I kinda want to try this- one on each side in the tank, feeding a surge tank somewhere else.

Will this work as a direct replacement? I want to keep my inline pump

I have set up a dual pump system on a race car. I used a low pressure pump on the left side feeding fuel to the high pressure pump pot on the left side. I once ran the tank down ~2 gallons in a race with no adverse affects. One side of the level sensor in the lift pump is grounded. So to get the gauge to work I had to insulate the lift pump.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yes, more or less. It'll work like the stock transfer pump feeding the main external pump, just a lot cheaper.

On my M3, I deleted both pumps and installed a Walbro intank pump for simplicity. Works great and the car runs well. The original pumps were almost 30 years old anyway.
