    Car will not run...HALP

    Have a 1991 vert. The DME was unplugged for about 5 minutes. Drove the car the next day about 20 miles and ran fine. On my way home at a stoplight, my idle became slightly erratic. Stopped at a restaurant to have lunch and when I was leaving, the car died in reverse and had a CEL, started back up fine. Drove home, turned the car off. For the first 5 minutes the car idled very rough and the check engine, abs, park brake, and battery lights were on and surging with the idle. When I revved the car, it was very rough but the CEL would go off and when it returned to idle, the light came on. Now the car will not idle at all...it will run about a total of 2-3 seconds and die.

    The IAC has been unplugged for about 3 weeks and the car has ran fine the entire time. I'm assuming low battery voltage or a vaccum leak somewhere?

    Anyone else have any ideas or experience with these symptoms? I've tried letting the car sit overnight and it still just will not idle...

    For shiggles, what's the battery voltage at rest? Idle? 2500 rpm or better?

      Still haven't got to check the voltage. Idle is super rough, when it idles. If I give it gas, it will run but the revving is very rough and seems like misfires...


      I sell at a BMW dealer and my master tech at work gave me a IAC valve he had laying around and as I was fooling with that, I noticed the intake boot had pulled off the MAF on the bottom, not sure if I did it while pulling on the IAC or not but I'll put that back on tonight and hopefully it will be the cause....I hope. If not, I'll check the battery voltage.

        Sounds like a huge vacuum leak to me.

          had all the same symptoms recently, and it ended up being a split wire going from the spark plugs to the coil.

            Solved. Was vacuum. Replaced the IAC and there was a tear in the side of the intake boot. Had a spare, runs fine.
