Ground out gears or linkage gone bad?

I have a rebuilt Getrag 260 from Drive-gear Transmission that was put in my car within a year ago. I was driving home tonight, and there was a grind going into second, so I let it out to neutral, and since then, I cannot get any grab from first, second, or reverse. There isn't any grinding when I put it into those gears, just no grab whatsoever. I can get the car to move in third gear, and the rest of them work fine.

My thought is that the gears are stripped, but my buddy said its the linkages "fell off" maybe thinking its easier than it is. I'm not sure that makes sense but I am looking for any silver lining at this point.

What are your guys thoughts. I can hope its something simple right?
