    M60 oil filter housing ports

Does anyone know which port is in and out on our oil filter housings?
And the "side" port I think drains oil in the housing back into the pan when you take the filter out. I'm guessing that this can be blocked off?? Slightly more inconvenient oil changes. Ones less hose running across my engine bay.

I can't recall which port is which, but I'd highly recommend running that drain hose. It routes right into the oil pan next to the feed/return ports so you can bundle them all together. It isn't pressurized, so a generic oil hose and clamps are all it takes. That port doesn't open until the cap is loosened slightly. And the entire thing is filled with oil, including the capacity of the cap. So if I fully remove the cap without waiting for it to drain, I get a lot of oil dumping out of the housing. It makes an enormous mess.

I'm not sure if that nipple is the same size thread as the m60b40 filter housing, which uses a banjo bolt. That would get it pointed in the same direction as the hoses, which would be nice. If it's not the same size, I'm sure you can find a banjo or 90* swivel fitting for it.

So theoretically, i could plug the pan port, attach a hose to the housing port, and then put the hose to my oil pan every oil change? Rather than have to run a 3rd hose all the way across the engine way.

I have my oil filter housing in the same place as that picture (i assume thats your car?) Are you running an oil cooler? I'm probably gonna run my stainless lines across the front of the core support rather than behind.

Yes, that should work fine too.

I did have an oil cooler, I went through 4 of them blowing up before finally giving up. I don't think oil temp is an issue anyway.

There's definitely room in front of the core support for all of that. After deleting the cooler, I chose to go up behind the core support for protection from debris, and so they wouldn't be visible through the valance.

Thanks for the help, and your pictures give me some good ideas as well.
What brands of coolers did you try? After research, Setrab has the best longevity and quality. Others have reported failures with mishi, earls, etc, but Setrab always gets good reviews, and is used in high end race cars.

I know I had at least 1 Earls... I forget what other brands I tried, but they were all Summit Racing 'cheap' units. You'd probably be good with a Setrab or something of good quality. I would just make sure to isolate it with rubber mounting of some sort. m60 valve cover rubber washers are great for that sort of thing.
