Quick help with Check panel staying on

Hey guys. I own a 84 325E with a striker setup.. 2.7block 2.5is Head. I noticed something not too long ago probably has been like this since I got car. I’ve had car only a few months... but haven’t drove her much due to issues I’ve been fixing here and there .

The issue is I noticed that the panels LED lights for 3 things stay on even after car has been shut down. Shouldn’t that panel not light up unless the key is on or car is on?

Any help or insight will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

You are correct, the check panel should not be illuminated with the key out of the ignition.

You should probably start with testing a different panel. If that doesn't fix it, you'll need to trace the wiring to see where it's fucked up. Since it started as an early eta, it's likely the car was converted to Motronic 1.3 when they put the 2.5 head (885) on it. The conversion includes some simple wiring. Since it sound's like you picked up someone else's half-assed project car, they probably fucked something up.

Use this website to find the wiring diagrams for both your 1984 325e and a late model (1990) 325i. Then you can trace out the systems, see where they were spliced, etc, etc.

Wiring diagrams look complicated at first, but are actually fun once you learn how to use them. Good luck!

There are a bunch of transistors that control those LED's. Over the decades, those transistors get stuck and leave the lights on. The same thing happens on the SI board and other circuits such as the central locking system.

The only method to fix is to swap with another good one (which may experience same issue down the line) or to have it refurbished. We have successfully repaired many of these btw for the same issue.
