first time seeing snow with the ix

Just wanted to share this with you guys.
Today in Belgium it was the first time in a while we had some snow. Great time to finally test the capabilities of the iX touring!

Together with my uncles ix (with it's shot VC) we went out on a drive.

I'm very impressed how well this thing handles in the snow, even with summer tires.. (still need to get my winter tires sorted)

This was on a hill with a gradient of 15.8%, cobblestone, some snow and summer tires. No problem at all for this ix.

15,8% road gradient, snow, cobblestones and summer tires, the iX can handle it all.

Same here for me in Vermont. First snow drive in the ix. Was able to blast up my dirt road with no drama, of course I have studded snows on, so an inch or two of snow is not much of a challenge....

We also drove on some dirt roads, can't believe we didn't get stuck as there was a lot of mud and quite a few big ruts lol

I've yet to get my rallycross IX stuck and I have slid into some deep mud pits, some 6-8" of pure mud.

These things are a frickin' blast in the snow. You can safely drive the speed limit with summer tires on. I got some cheapo bottlecaps with studs on them that I throw on if there's snow on the ground. With those things I can have a spirited drive as if it were a hot summer day, tearing up corners and passing all the trucks doing 15mph.

Although both my IX and I are happy to be in sunny San Antonio, a very very very small part of me misses snow for this very reason lol! Have fun ya'll!

I've never felt the need for winter tires on an IX, I've always had simple all-seasons installed and never had issues in the snow. Snowy mountain passes in the northwest and harsh, icy winters here in NY.

Braking has nothing to do with AWD, so snow tires really are important. If you drive in the snow a lot, they are very worth it.

I've tried to get my E34ix stuck and it has yet to happen. Even driving into snow that was deeper than the bottom of the doors by a few inches. It's a beast.

Those saying winter tires aren't needed have clearly never driven on a real snowy/icy road...

Your connection with the ground is the same wether you're driving a lifted Ford F250 or my fwd Fiesta ST.
With my studded snows i guarantee that i have more confidence in bad conditions than any IX with "all season" tires.
Studs, completely different tread patterns, completely different rubber compounds, there is a reason snow tires exist...

Better tires/wheels are literally the best upgrade you can buy for a car, they will always be near the top on my list of upgrades.

I've had my iX for 16 years now. It does well in most snowy conditions with all weather tires. In my experience it was completely worthless with my summer tires on. I was all over the road and couldn't make it up anything. Very dangerous. With fresh Blizzaks on I can climb like a cat straight up and out of the deepest snow.

                        Tires count!
