Had to cut a hole in my floor today

So just some context, if youve seen pics of my safari build so far you can tell my ix is dented up and the paint is shit. However my car is also rust free minus a tiny area around the battery tray. So last night im driving to get my daughter from her atrium class. I pull into the parking lot and go to put the lever in reverse(automatic car) I realize the shifter doesnt feel like anything is attached and proceed to inspect underneath to find the threaded area of the post is gone, leaving only the keyed area of the shift post remaining. Ended having to take a 2 1/2 hole saw through the inner portion of the passenger foot well, roughly where all three panel creases meet. Essentially where the passengers left foot and heel would rest. Tacked the lever nack on and away I went, but what a fucking nightmare as well. Gonna have to get some kind of firewall plug for it. Cant ever be easy.

No but my lift was occupied and the threaded portion of the post that the lever is keyed onto was completely gone, could not get an approriate angle with the welder to ensure good penetration onto the post, didnt want to do this twice and i had very limited time. Even with the exhaust out of the way there just didnt seem to be a good approach short of dropping the trans.
