BEST use for an e30 auto-box!!!

Over the years I have had to compression and leak down engines that are out of a car. Often times it will fail leak down simply because there's dust and whatnot in the valve seats etc, oil is dry on the cyl walls, so I prefer to compression test them first and get and initial feeling for the engine.

Well, in the past I have always attached a transmission to bolt a starter on. Today I was testing an s50 that had been sitting for some time and it was leaking bad. Happen to look over and see a slush-box that a customer left since he didn't want it. Was in unknown condition (later pulled the clutches out anyways just to see, and it was in bad shape).

Anyways, realized it had a bolt-on bell housing, and thought "AH-HA"!!!

I also did something similar with an auto flex plate to hold the TDC pin when building an engine on the stand. Chopped the plate so it would clear an engine stand and still bolt to the crank. Otherwise, you have to take the engine off the stand.

This is an old photobuckt link BTW. To fix them in threads, just add "~original" at the end, just before the "[IMG], hehe....

Which part? The bell housing, the flex plate, or the photobucket secret? :p

I was referring to the two mechanical ideas but the PB idea is good too, I'd give you the hat trick or turkey if you prefer bowling.

I thought this was going to be you welded/clamped the output of an auto box, so you could use the TQ converter as a load on the motor. Still cool.

              Sorry to disappoint, George. :/

But, OTOH, I have been wanting to build a run-in stand so I can pre-break in motors, and you might be on to something. I have a 5 speed slushbox from an e36m3 that could fit the bill...

Would be really neat to have an engine dyno, but my friend owns a chassis dyno and rents it to me on the cheap.

That's where I went, too. High stall torque converter as a testing load...

                  NICE!

I have an engine run stand for the same reason. I just sawed off a the bellhousing of an E36 getrag though..

I was up above it, Now I'm down in it ~ Entropy - A Build thread.
