    e30 Franken Rear SubFrame

Ok, I have a 98 M3 parts cars and I have heard of a some e30's that have done this but have had no luck finding more info. I want to put the whole e36 subframe into my e30... can this be done? does anybody here know more, or have seen this done? Can you point me in the right direction. I have not pulled the rear subframe off the M3 yet.

    Thanks

why do you want to do that? for the 5 lug swap, of the answer is yes then look into a e36 318. that is direct swap

I'm would rather use the parts off my complete 1998 M3 that has a blown motor. And I am talking about the complete rear subframe.

Yes, I am going to to ask about. Having never swapped an e36 rear subframe into an e30 I am trying to gather as much info as possible before I

For the record I want to swap the complete rear subframe from my M3 and graft it onto my e30. Anybody have any knowledge of this, or can point me in the right direction?

        Thanks

There's a few problems with actually doing a complete swap, the E36 sub frame wont fit. I read somewhere that its 1 inch 2 long. So if your really handy with a welder and torch you could shorten the assembly. Or (this is a stretch) make some sort off offset sub frame bushings that adapt the mounting points. I assume the reason you want to do this is too mount bigger rear brakes and a better diff, because i'm fairly certain your going to need to use a E36 diff. swapping the diff means your going to need a new custom drive shaft which is $$$ best bet would be use the 318ti rear trailing arms, which are a direct swap. You already have the front suspension from your m3 parts car. E30 stuff is just as strong or stronger when you add reinforcement. I've got 318ti rear trailing arms i pulled from a parts car and the axles already hooked up, I'll sell it to you.

I really don't get why you'd part out a car just because it has a blown motor. Rather than undergo a ridiculous effort to swap the subframe, just fix the motor and drive the M3.

He's talking about the multilink E36 rear end, not the 318ti trailing arm rear.

Same. I love E30's, but an E36 M3 with functioning s50/s52 is a blast to own and drive.

The E36 rear suspension is a massive improvement in rear handling/ grip.

The E36 isn't going to fit under an E30 without a major amount of surgery to
the whole underside of the the E30. It's not just the subframe, which changes function,
it's the trailing arm pickup points and spring perches in the body. Having cut up both, it ain't gonna
happen unless you go full metal fabrication.

I'd love it. I'd never attempt it.

+1, fix the M3 with an S54. It'll be cheaper, easier, and faster.

The M3 was abandoned, left at my buddies shop for 3 years. He was going to send it to the crusher, the car has no title no nothing. He wanted it gone, I got it for $100, to use as a strictly parts. Its not worth trying to hunt down or deal with the DMV. What I do know of the previous transactions of the car were trades for pounds of weed. The motor lost oil pressure and seized. I got it to use for parts for my e30.

My goal for my e30 is this,

                      Honda K20 Turbo swap
M3 ZF 5 speed trans swap

                      M3 5 lug swap
                      M3 rear subframe swap
                      BBK

Half cage maybe go all the way
                      Windows out repaint

                      Pandem Rocket bunny wide body
Momo 6 spoke or fifteen52 bergmiesters

going to do a build thread when the build starts

oh gawd!!!!! seriously? you can't really be serious?

just say no to the rocket bunny bullshit. that will make your car look like it just flew out of a sweaty sausage pounded ass. if this sounds like an intervention, you are correct. it is.

if you want flares(which are kind of ghey on an e30 anyway), go look at the KA motors website and buy them from Cameron.

What I was trying to say that you don't really ask about a project like this. Either you have the money to pay someone to figure it out, or you figure it out. If you don't fall into one of those two categories then the project is just a pipe dream.

That being said there was some guy who put a e46 rear subframe into a e30, but it isn't something anyone can do.

It makes absolutely no sense to put an e36 rear subframe in an e30. Sure it has way more grip, but if you're going to go through the cost of that much fabrication, why not put an even better rear end in?
