Gas tank leak- how difficult and what else at the same time

My guibo vibrates. The tank is leaking and I am going to attempt a patch with Marine Tex. That will likely buy me a little time. But, what are the difficult parts of this job? I need to replace the tank, guibo an shift linkage.
If I recall correctly, lowering the exhaust could be bad. This car has rust so and thoughts on how I am getting the exhaust off? Other ideas? Thanks.

Disconnecting and removing the back half of the exhaust shouldn't be that bad. Support the back of the transmission, remove the transmission cross member and lower the tail of the transmission a few inches. That should give you just enough room to remove the drive shaft and work on the shift linkage and flex disk. Tight, but do-able, patience grasshopper!

Now that you have all that out of the way, ideal time to replace the gas tank versus patching.

Take a good look at the Center Support Bearing (CSB) and remember to pre-load that on reinstall.

Can this definitely be done without removing exhaust from the manifold? If this can be done from cat back, then I may have a much easier time. I am going to patch the tank with marine tex and then start ordering parts to do the job right. I was under the impression I wold have to remove the whole exhaust and that seems like it would be a serious issue. Can you confirm just removing my Remus cat back is all that is necessary? Thanks.

Yes. By lowering the tail of the transmission there was enough flex in the exhaust to get the driveshaft out.

ok, great thank you. The gas tank patch worked. I will start getting parts for the next step.
