CEL once engine gets to operating temp

    1990 ix - m20b25 - motronic 1.3

I just replaced the wp and tb. Now im trying to bleed the coolant system and all seems in order until the car reaches operating temp. The CEL came on and its like the car was getting hot instantly and coolant started spraying out of the bleeder pretty forcefully. I had the heat on and res cap loosened. I also put in a new t-stat and even tried the old one that was still good to make sure the new one wasn't DOA and got the same result. Could this be due to a faulty coolant temp sensor? I turned the car off and back to on position for a stomp test and got code 1444 which means "no issues". any thoughts?

Blue coolant temp sensor was the culprit
