Replacing upper and lower steering spindle bearings- Airbag car

I have a clunk in the steering column, it is not from the U joint and guibo in the engine compartment as that assembly has been recently replaced. I would like to replace the spindle bearings and see if it fixes the issue.

I removed the steering wheel, and parts 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9. Part 10 (32311157399), the upper spindle bearing, seems stuck within the center of the steering lock (32321156460) and won't come out.

I was wondering if I could remove the upper steering spindle (32311156068) and its attached rings, bearings, etc as a whole through the front (towards the driver) of the bracket by undoing the bolt that attaches the upper steering spindle to the lower steering spindle assembly (32311159500). If so, then I wouldn't have to remove the upper spindle bracket (32311155433) and therefor not have to deal with the two fracture bolts that attach the upper spindle bracket to the dash. However, when I try to pull the upper spindle out, it won't come.

SO, for this job, do I have to remove the steering lock and/or the steering column bracket to change the upper and lower spindle bearings?

ghrays, were you ever able to figure out how to get the shaft removed? My steering also has a clunk that I am trying to hunt down.
