    M20B25 refresh cost...

I sent a used motor to the local machine shop to take it apart and see how it looked. Guy said it looked good. Bores, pistons, rods and crank were in spec. Head was fine as well. I asked to put in new bearings and rings and put new valve seals and replace any rockers, guides or springs that were worn. He told me $1500. I'm thinking that's a tad high, what say you guys with knowledge on this?

I just paid 1,700 for labor to go through a M20b25 block. Hone oversized, journal hone, new intermediate shaft bearings, main and rod caps re-cut to round, new brass bushings in rods, decked, o oring cuts on deck, and lightly polished crank. Basically gone through completely. If i had to do it all over again, i would buy a short block from Bimmerheads and be done with it.

get a break down of costs.

Remember hes probably charging 80 or 90 an hour, maybe more. with say 700 in parts it leaves him with only ~6hrs of work or so. which is probably fairly reasonable.

Just the head bolts is like 60bucks on its own. A VRS kit will be ~200. starts to add up fast.

depends a fair bit on exactly what was replaced and what machine work was done.

Well I looked at the prices on Glyco bearings and Goetz rings and they run about $100 a set. Goetz gasket and bolts another $100 and valve seals $20. What else will it need if the rockers and guides are good?

guides, rockers and springs are spendy on the head side of things.

is 1700 a quote or the work is done and thats what the price came to? id just check the breakdown and go from there and if anything looks out of order query it, otherwise how long is a piece of string

It's $1500 total to put bearings, rings and valve seals with head gasket and bolts.

sounds reasonable enough, with all the other stuff being done
