    Trunk Leak, Need Help.

Attached are images of where I found a leak to be coming in from my trunk and leaking into my battery location, does anyone know where the water could be leaking in from to be rusting that part of my trunk? Thank you.

Check under the trunk seal, where you may well find a rusty seam that allows water in to the trunk. Alternately, if you park outside, or if you have water pooling in the battery well you can get condensation that may pool off of the trunk lid in the same location.

I agree with the trunk seal as the first culprit. Pull it off, check for pin holes around the edges. If you park with the nose low, rain can overwelm the gasket if it is not tight to the trunk. Place a piece of paper between the gasket and the lid, close the trunk and there should be some drag when you try to pull it out. Check several places.

Then the tail light gaskets are relatively easy and cheapish (by BMW standards) to replace. Also, the sunroof drain can cause moisture in the trunk. Make sure they are clear and the hoses are not cracked and are secured properly in the quarter panel vent.

Regardless, treat those rust spots before they get worst!

C pillar trim pieces have plastic grommets that have been known to shrink and leak due to age.

Thanks guy for the information, I ordered a new trunk seal to just change that out. Ill also go pickup some rust converter to fix that rust spot.

I'll second taillight seals. If the car ever gets any sort of a bump in the butt,
they can leak, even if the metal's not distorted visually.
And they can deteriorate, but you never find it until you pull 'em.

Correct, but his rust is above the tail light as far as I can tell.
