    Odd bogging problem

    Aloha everyone,

I have a 1992 E30 Convertible which has developed an odd problem. Driving in town one day the car started bog. I pulled on the side and turned the car off for a moment, turned it back on and the problem went away. Since that day it hasn’t gone away. Today while driving I noticed it’ll bog around 3,000 RPM. I can cruise fine below that. But like the first occasion I can turn the car off, turn it back on and the problem will go away. Has anyone experienced this before? What’s going on?

    Appreciate the feedback!

If you experience bogging, it could be a number of things. The engine could temporarily lose timing signal from the CPS. Fuel pressure might be dropping (tee in a pressure gauge to check). A ground cable might be loose somewhere. Your TPS might be acting up too. Take your time to look over everything. Good luck.

I had a bogging issue somewhat similar to what you are describing. I found that the cause rooted from my TPS, witch had filled with oil. The fill with oil because of blow by, causing them to foul in turn sending the ECU the wrong signal. I fixed it by removing the TPS and carefully cleaning it out. When re installing it you must test to make sure it is aligned possibly. The car runs great now.

Dont forget an old tired AFM can cause this condition too. See my thread to see why this happens, it bogs down because the DME reduces fuel output based on bad signal of the AFM.
