Forgive me for posting this question here, but this board has always had the most knowledge of the M/S 5x swaps and I didn't know where else to go with this. My friend and I have just swapped an M50 from a 93 325i into a 95 318 Hatchback body, the car will start with great difficulty but runs terribly with the main relay chattering all the time. We have tried jumping the 30 to the 87 with no change. Tested the relay and it is fine, even tried another relay of same kind with the same result. Have swapped other bmws in the past and never run into this. I feel like this is bad ground issue but don't know how to go about tracing it. Probed the DME connector with a continuity tester for ground circuts 6,28,34,44,45,55,71 and all seem OK. Engine ran perfectly in previous car. Does anyone have a suggestion of where to look next? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
