    Motor mount arm heat shield

On the pass. side, realoem shows a heat shiield on the diagram. Do you need it? Will it fit with the green mounts?

not a bad idea to keep it considering bmw engineers put it there. I assume it probably is only *really* necessary since the OEM mounts are hydraulic, whereas the green ones are solid rubber. Should take about a minute to figure out if it will fit with the green mounts, if you got em and are putting the motor in anyways. Some people use a piece of fabbed heat shield from this shit, some people get rid of it altogether.

Yeah, the problem is that I don't have it. I think I will try to get it.

I thought it was a good idea to run a heat shield on the right engine mount and found the E36 heat shield was ~$40 which seemed a bit spendy for a thin piece of metal.

A bit of research found that the E46 used a similar heat shield that was slightly bigger in diameter. Part number: 22111094624

This is about $15 and fits well over the AKG mounts on my swap (and should easily fit over the green mounts). You might need to trim off a small tab that locates the shield on the E46 mount but that is easily done.

I would make one or wrap the motor mount.

I will try the e46 shield (less than 13 @ ecs). Hwy robbery for the e36 piece. All the little stuff I need is blowing my budget.

Ew, ECS Tuning. There are different companies that make sleeves that go around the mount and arm. Hell, Condor even has one for $18. It's up to you. I put that gold foil stuff around the mount since I had extra. No problems so far. A lot of it will depend on the header setup you have.
