The time has come to find a new home for my old car.
I've owned this 1991 BMW 318i for 12 years and it was my daily driver for about 5 of those. It's lived in my garage most of the time, including now, but I simply don't drive it very often. It's a perfectly reliable car, but like any 28 year old car it has its charms and faults.
The good:
- 118k miles on a working odometer
- New Bilstein HD struts and shocks with e30 M3 springs
- Newer BF Goodrich tires.
- 15" OZ Vega 3 piece wheels
- Thule roof rack with fairing.
- Cooling system overhauled ~8 years ago with new radiator, hoses, thermostat, housing. Mess under the intake was cleaned up around the same time.
- Nice interior. BMW's vinyl of this era was indestructible.
- All standard maintenance is up to date. I've been keeping the fluids changed even though I haven't put many miles on it in the last 5 years
- Great gas mileage, starts every time, idles steady and goes when you want it to.
- Comes with a tub of spare parts. Over the years I picked up parts I ended up not needing immediately, and never got around to installing. Lots of new stuff in there.
- Complete tool kit.
- Huge folder of maintenance history, and various original manuals.
- Passed Arizona emissions testing on 4/30/2019
The bad
- Plenty of dings, dents and scratches. The clear coat is peeling. The wheels have lots of curb-age.
- No AC. It started declining a few years ago, but I wasn't driving it much by then so I never had it fixed.
- Sometimes noisy going into 1st gear from a stop. Fine if you're gentle with it.
- Window switches are sensitive, you have to press them just right, but they work
- Drivers side door lock is worn. It works, but the key turns extra far.
- Radio asks for the code every time it starts up and it forgets the stations. I have the code.
- Usual cracked dash, comes with a dash mat
