rear brake has been dragging and hot - rebuild caliper fix or too damaged?

The rotors have gotten hot quite a few times. I can finally get around to repairing this and I notice that calipers cost way more than I remember. I hate the fact that bavauto has closed. So, how viable is the rebuild option? Or once they get stuck and hot is there usually damage that cannot be fixed with cleaning and new seals?

It should be fixable, but honestly, rebuilt calipers are really cheap.

Which brand of rebuilt calipers are good? I am looking to get some e46 m3 and e39 540i calipers to go with my 5 lug kit.

I have had good experiences with Centrics.

My only complaint about rebuilt calipers is that they strip them to bare metal, but don’t recoat. So you want to paint them.

I haven't been able to find them cheap. I found them for about $70-$80 a pop. I remember picking them up at bavauto for about half that. If they were in that $40 range. I would just buy them.
