    what wiring isn't needed?

    seams like there is a tone of excess wiring in the car, what can i get rid of that won't effect the overal function of the car?

    things i must have.

    motor electronics
    ABS stuf
    exterior lights.

    the rest is meeting mr trash can.

    also is there a electronics troubleshooting section in the bently or chilton or online?

    I pulled absolutely every wire out of my to-be track car. The whole mess came out as one, uncut thing. The whole lot weighs about 20kg (forgot exact value but it is still in a box). That includes the computer, fusebox and one or two other "boxes".

    Like you, I intend on removing every single wire that I do not need but I do not see massive weight savings coming from that. To help me do the job when I get to it, I immediately put masking tape around the wire and labelled it as soon as I removed it.

      a friend of mine said he saved almost 30lbs by removing all but the necessaries on his M3 race car. he is 6,000 miles away and doesn't use the internet much otherwise i'd plug him for info

        if you pull the dash, there is a lot of wiring under there that deal with the heater,a/c controls. the good thing is most is connected with a molex type plug on the right side of the steering shaft.

          good man, I need to be that disciplined. I'm sure when I put everything back together again I'll have threads like "whats this green wire for?"

            You can safely (and carefully) remove the wiring for the audio system and HVAC system. After that it becomes a circuit by circuit case as to whether something can be removed. But there negligable weight savings in the wiring. Removing the sunroof or sound deadening is much more "profitable".

              I need to keep the heating, but not so much the AC. Looks like i'm probably just going to pull the audio, then when i blow the M20 up and stick a better motor in, then i'll play with the wiring more

                It would be cool if there was a wirining diagram...

                I plan on pulling all the wiring 2... and seeing as a cage is going in, I wont be able to use the std fusebox... how do ppl get around this ?

                  Simple, you said that you are going to remove all the wiring, incl. the fuse box. When you put back what you need, just leave the fuse box inside by the firewall. Any wires that have to run to the front should easily be able to accomodate the 15-20cm that you moved the fuse box.
